Estate Acquisition in Mexico
Under Mexican law there two legal mechanisms that can be used in order to buy a property. The first of them is the acquisition through a bank Trust (fideicomiso) and the second is the direct acquisition, usually a sale agreement "escritura". Within 50 kilometers of the borders and in the Federal District, there is only one way person can hold realestate…. the fideicomiso (Trust) approach.
The Trust in Mexico has the following characteristics: The direct acquisition option has the following characteristics:
1- Under Mexican Federal law in order to buy a property any foreigner must
submit an "agreement of acquisition" before the Secretariat of Foreign
Affairs (Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores). Once submitted a
confirmation reply must be given to the buyer within 8 working days and
the cost currently is MN$ 300.00 per person.
