CHILDREN OF INCARCERATED PARENTS ARE THE MOST INJURED INNOCENTS OF CRIME AND PUNISHMENT

There is no reason to deal with the blame. There is enough to go around. The most human thing, the most Christian thing , to do is to help the children. There are many benefits to us individually and to society in general. But the thrust is the help the children to avoid the pitfalls of their experience, to realize fulfillment in their personal lives and to raise the standards of morality and life for everyone.

›  President Bush's Spending Cuts Are a Myth - If you believe the reports coming from the major media outlets, you have been led to believe that Bush's spending cuts in the 2007 fiscal year budget were deep and far-reaching.
FAR FROM IT

Without Equity there can be no Justice

Children have to be part of the formula for sentencing. There is not doubt that there would be great benefit to all concerned if offenders were turned back to the family as providers and protectors. This could be don  under supervision, expanding the Correctional Case Worker Service. Clinical medical and psychological evaluations coupled with strict supervision and financial resources for survival can be afforded.

At present close to $1,000,000,000 is allocated and wasted each year on warehousing techniques that are proven to be non-effective. The cost today does not allow even a little to realistic rehabilitation. The money could be spent where prevention is as great a possibility as reducing recidivism.

There is a way. It is a matter of breaking out of the current practices and institution a new way. The old way is a failure, worthless and costly.

Justice: The maintenance and administration of what is just, especially by the impartial adjustment of conflicting claims or the assignment of merited rewards or punishment; the quality of being just, impartial or fair; conformity to truth, fact or reason; to acquit in a way worthy of one’s powers;  to treat fairly or adequately; the quality of performing according to law; the principal or ideal of just dealing or right action.

Equity: Justice according to natural (God’s) law;  freedom from bias or favoritism; a body of legal and procedural doctrines that supplement, aid or override common and statute law and are designed to protect rights and enforce duties fixed by substantive law; or override a narrow, rigid system of law.

Something is wrong. Our tendency to lock more people away as a viable solution to our problems should not be shrugged off.
The present system is NOT working.

GET THE FACTS ON THE DRUG WAR

Over 80% of the increase in the federal prison population from 1985 to 1995 was due to drug convictions.

IT IS A FACT
One out of every 75 American males (men & boys) is in prison. The number has increased by 3% since last year.

There are 3,033,321 prisoners today in the United States , This does not account for the millions who have served terms but now retain the title of “felon” and are to some degree under supervision of the prison system. The number jumps to nearly 7 million when you count all those on probation.

This is a tremendous financial drain on our economy with a cost over $90,999,630,000 per year!   And, this is only an estimate!  It seems that everything we want to do now is either illegal, immoral or fattening, Aa the story goes.

There must be some truth to it. Currently one of every 142 U.S. residents is locked away… nearly an 8-fold increase in just a couple of years.   Our nation has a larger prisoner population than Russia .  With 5 percent of the world’s population, we have 25 percent of the prisoners! When you consider the number of people on probation or parole, one in every 32 people in the country is involved.
